In March we went up to Boise to visit Justin's family. Daniel was becoming an elder so we went up for the blessing. Justin's family likes to be 3 hours early for church so they had left with the kids and we were going to meet them there. Kristen had come from Rexburg to see us. We were grabbing something to eat before we headed to church. We were in the kitchen and I heard Kristen scream. I asked her what was wrong and she said there was a huge spider on the bananas. She saw it move when she went to grab a banana. I was thinking "what a wimp, it's probably a little tiny spider." I went over to look at it and I couldn't even see anything. She showed me where it was again and I jumped and I FREAKED out. I am not joking, this spiders legs were HUGE! It practically covered one banana (not really, but they WERE huge and black). So big, tough Daniel decided to walk over and see what we were freaking out about, again thinking like I did, that it was a baby spider. When tough guy saw the spider he screamed like a girl and jumped more then I did. IT WAS SO FUNNY!
In this picture we saw Daniel grab an oven mit out of the drawer and he says, "I'm not touching that thing with my bare hands!!!
He carefully grabbed the bananas and put them in a bowl and took them outside.
I'm so sorry I didn't get a picture of the spider. I didn't even think about it at the time. This whole thing freaked me out even more, because Justin had told me about this guy who had died from getting bit by a spider at the grocery store when he grabbed a bunch of bananas. It was the Brazillian wandering spider "banana spider". When you get bit by this spider you only have 10 minutes to live. It's the most venomous spider there is and the most deadly. The spider made it all the way from Brazil and was hangin' out on these bananas and the guy DIED from it! So when I saw that spider on the bananas, that's the first thing I thought of. It ended up being just a hobo spider (we think). And yes, we smashed the freaky spider.
Because of all this drama, we were late for church and Justin's parents thought we were just using this story as an excuse for being late! I DON'T THINK SO :)

This whole incident really didn't help with Daniel's anxiety about leaving for his mission in -- where else? Brazil! Apparently, these spiders are present in the Sao Paulo area. Good story (still don't know if that was the only reason you were late getting to church -- again!.
Love, Dad
I like how you said "just a hobo spider" I think those things are pretty creepy but I guess it's better than a killing spider.
